ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is centered on memory, loss, perception, and shifting ideas of home. I use glass not just  because of it's allure and inherent beauty, but because it has the ability to mediate the environment around us. It is a medium in all senses of the word. It can distort, reflect. refract, amplify, and even hide.

Nature has always influenced my work. While I continue to look at the movement of water, shifting clouds, and organic forms for inspiration, my focus has expanded beyond those references. My work has become centered on comfort, memory, loss, and shifting ideas of home. I use glass not just  because of it's allure and inherent beauty, but because it has the ability to mediate the environment around us. It is a medium in all senses of the word. It can distort, reflect. refract, amplify, and even hide.

Most recently, I have been creating sculptures and installations that combine glass with light, video, and sound to create immersive environments. I am interested in how these materials can alter perception and encourage viewers to slow down, becoming more aware of their own bodies, memories, and relationship to the space around them.

BIOGRAPHY

Isabella Condorelli is an Italian-American artist born in Monza, Italy. Raised between New York and northern Italy, her experience moving between countries and cultures has shaped an ongoing interest in home, memory, and belonging.

Working primarily in glass, Condorelli creates sculptures and installations that explore the natural world as well as perception, vulnerability, and the relationship between the body and place. Drawn to the material's fluidity and its unique optic qualities, she uses traditional glassmaking techniques alongside contemporary installation practices to examine how memory shifts over time and how places and experiences continue to shape us long after they have changed.

Condorelli earned an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Humanities from Dutchess Community College before receiving her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She is currently a Glass MFA candidate at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
